Welcome to The English Magazine
General information
The English Magazine provides two complementary services. First, it offers students of English an opportunity to improve their competence in the language through reading and listening to authentic materials at an appropriately graded level of difficulty. Second, it gives teachers a vast resource of material that they can use in class, either working online in a computer lab or else in a traditional classroom with printed photocopies.
History
The English Magazine first appeared on the web in 2000. It was founded by Richard Prescott, who is the editor in chief. Richard is an experienced English language teacher and author of several graded readers, all published by Macmillan. His "Officially Dead" was selected as a set text for the Cambridge First Certificate exam for several years running.
In setting up the English Magazine, Richard wanted to create something that would expose students to new language in a real context while at the same time catering for different abilities, tastes and interests. A multi-level general interest magazine seemed the best format to achieve that aim.
Subscribers to the magazine are both individual students working on their own and educational institutions such as high schools and universities.
